Cuts proposal vote for Dundee University students

Dundee University students will be invited to voice their opposition to education cuts.

Dundee student protest

Dundee students protest cuts.

The students' association is to hold an extraordinary general meeting to vote on a motion that would commit it to "support all organisations in defence against cuts that may affect present and future students" at the university.

The EGM, next Tuesday, was organised after a petition by around 80 students. If the motion is passed, DUSA will be tasked with campaigning for viable alternatives to cuts.

The backers of the motion stated, "Across education and the public sector, cuts are being made in an attempt to reduce the government's budget deficit.

"These cuts threaten to damage the standards of service provided and will hit the poorest hardest. The cuts in education are directly offset by a 1% drop in corporation tax."

Like all Scottish universities, Dundee University is facing a 10.9% cut in its teaching grant in 2011/12 and has been seeking almost 200 job cuts through a voluntary severance scheme.

In this sensible? First, you oppose levy of fees and want free university education. Second, you oppose sustaiability review by the univeristy. Third, you oppose businesses (which provide direct tax revenue to State and salaries to people and taxes on same). No free lunch boys - you cant have all
