Museum trust chairman Wynne Harley said the MLA's museum accreditation scheme set nationally-agreed standards for all museums in the UK.
"Fife Folk Museum's award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its collections and the service it provides to its visitors," she said.
"We are really pleased to gain this sought-after award. This was a team effort and was only achieved thanks to the interest, dedication and sheer hard work of all the trustees and volunteers.
"The museum has a growing membership and their interest and support has been invaluable," she added.
MLA chairman Andrew Motion said being awarded accreditation is an impressive achievement.
"It recognises the high standard and service that Fife Folk Museum provides and acknowledges the hard work of its volunteers and staff," he added.
Fife Folk Museum celebrates the social, domestic and working lives of the people in Fife with displays featuring weights and measures, costume and accessories, a cottage interior, beekeeping, tools and implements associated with all aspects of farming.
This season's exhibition features Famous Fife Folk as part of the Celebrating Fife 2010 theme.
