Dundee Museum of Transport (DMoT) organised the event to show the transport heritage that exists and visitors have been flocking to it ever since.
Visitor numbers have been so consistent that the exhibition, originally scheduled to end today, has now been extended to Wednesday.
Spokesman Gordon Lowe said they had received "very positive" comments from visitors, with many saying it was time the city had its own transport museum.
He said, "This has definitely given our plans for a permanent museum a boost as it has shown the interest there is in a museum.
"In fact, everyone seems so keen that it's amazing that a Dundee transport museum wasn't thought of earlier.
"We've been handing out leaflets about our plans with our website address on it and the traffic to our website has gone up about ten-fold as people have clicked on it to find out more."
"We've even had people offering their services to help us achieve our aim of opening a transport museum and others have said they would lend us exhibits such as a vintage car and local memorabilia that would otherwise have been kept in private collections.
"There hasn't been room to show all our information so we've been changing the display to get as much as possible on show.
"There have been occasions when there were so many people around an exhibit that others haven't been able to see it."
DMoT decided to hold the exhibition to highlight proposals for a permanent display in the former transport depot off Forfar Road.
Negotiations are continuing over the purchase of that building, but the project backers say they would like to find a temporary location for a museum to keep momentum going.
