Mr Sturrock passed away at his Kingsmuir home, surrounded by family, having been diagnosed with a serious illness in October.

Born at Moss-side, Mr Sturrock attended Craichie School and Forfar Academy before an apprenticeship as a carpet fitter with Justice Brothers in Dundee.

In 1968 he joined the family business, Sturrock House Furnishers, founded by his father, Allan sr, a year earlier.

Mr Sturrock jr and his wife Liz took over the shop, which became Sturrocks of Forfar, in 1986. The Green Street business ceased in 2005 when Mr Sturrock went into semi-retirement.

A quiz enthusiast, he also represented the Queen Street Bar in the Forfar Domino League. He also enjoyed holidays on the Greek isles.

Mr Sturrock is survived by his wife, daughters Tracy, Lorna and Joanna and grandchildren Sian and Chloe.

His funeral will be on Friday at 12.30pm in Forfar East and Old Parish Church, thereafter to Forfar Cemetery.
