They were among 27 teachers from across the country invited to represent those who have just completed their one-year classroom induction.

Learning and skills minister Alasdair Allan met them at the Edinburgh HQ of the General Teaching Council for Scotland and said the Scottish Government had "the highest regard" for teachers.

He said, "But we realise that this is also a challenging period for budding teachers.

"However, the agreement we have reached with CoSLA on teacher employment guarantees a probationer place for every newly qualified teacher in summer 2011 and sufficient posts for all those finishing their probation in summer 2011 to apply for."

Taking part were Richard Stratton from Arbroath Academy, Heather Linton from Sidlaw View Primary in Dundee, Stephanie Gardiner from Kirkland High School in Methil and Chrissie Robinson from Kinross Primary.
