Loyal pooch is groom Duncan McIntyre's best man

Dogs may be commonly known as man's best friend, but one had the honour of being best man at an unusual Perthshire wedding.

Australian couple Duncan McIntyre and Mia Hoogenboom shunned tradition to have their nuptials in the wilds of Scotland, with their loyal pet Zac.

The low-key ceremony took place on a hill overlooking Schiehallion, near Kenmore, with just a handful of witnesses, including the 11-year-old dog.

Photographer Polly Pullar from Aberfeldy told The Courier she was only persuaded to snap the wedding after hearing there would be a canine element.

"I don't usually do weddings and the only reason I agreed to it was because I heard their dog was going to be there," she said.

"I just loved the idea that they were doing it like that. He was so well behaved and just stole the show."

Polly was one of only three witnesses at the ceremony, joining Peter Mutch and Andy Reed from Highland Safaris, who helped the couple arrange their special day, which was officiated by registrar Mo Cairncross.

Although the pair live in Glasgow, they were looking for a romantic wedding, so contacted the Highland Perthshire firm, which offers days out in the area.

Fortunately for Mia's elegant white dress, they were not required to hike to the venue as the company transported them to the hill by off-road vehicle.

Polly added, "They were picked up in Kenmore and delivered to what Highland Safaris calls the Schiehallion hill bothy. It was a very cold day, but there was some lovely sunshine between times, so we had to get the shots done quickly.

"Afterwards they had a meal in the bothy, just the two of them and their dog."

Mia and Duncan did choose to keep some traditions and as befits a Scottish wedding, they were piped in by Gilly McNab from the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band.
