Quarrel won the award for best video game on Sunday night.

The two other shortlisted games were also produced in Dundee — Cobra Mobile's iBomber Defense and Cohort Studios' Me Monstar: Hear Me Roar!

Quarrel is a puzzle game that combines anagram skills with the strategy of board games such as Risk. We previously reviewed it here.

Denki managing director Colin Anderson said: ''It was only released back in August, and only on iPhone and iPad.

''It is still really early in the development of what we've got planned so I'm absolutely delighted for everybody involved in the project, particularly because it has been such a difficult birthing process for the game.''

He added: ''Many in the industry were really sceptical about a word game and weren't prepared to like it so to get the validation from an organisation like BAFTA is hugely gratifying.''

Mr Anderson said the shortlist of games from three Dundee firms highlights the city's importance to the games industry.
