BT Openreach applied to install a grey DSLAM cabinet opposite 32 The Mall, and the application has been recommended for conditional approval.
The site is at the rear of a surfaced parking area in the mid-section of The Mall, close to its junction with Graham Street, and lies within the boundary of the Montrose Conservation Area.
The cabinet would be 1.3m tall, 0.75m wide and 0.4m deep and will be positioned beside a similar BT cabinet, as a link will require them to be within 50 metres of one another.
Super Fast Fibre Access (SFFA) will provide future-proof broadband and is expected to be in place for around 20 years.
A number of other cabinet locations throughout the town had also been considered by the applicant.
BT Openreach is rolling out a series of new cabinets in each of its telephone exchange areas that will be used to provide high-speed broadband services.
SFFA will provide up to 40Mb per second download speeds and up to 10Mb upload speeds.
No objections have been raised, and it is expected the application will be approved, with the proviso that the cabinet is a more fitting green colour.
