Motorists warned of more rush-hour delays due to Dundee Road works at Stannergate
Motorists are facing more major delays at rush hour today as roadworks on one of the main easterly routes out of the city continue.

Frustration for Tuesday evening commuters heading east.

Frustrated drivers were stuck in long traffic jams on Tuesday evening as the council kicked off its carriageway surface dressing works on Dundee Road — which are due to last up to five days.
As a result the eastbound carriageway will be closed for the duration with traffic diverted up Craigie Drive at the Stannergate roundabout and on to Strathern Road before heading down Ellieslea Road to rejoin Dundee Road.
And with the main A92 Arbroath road open but still not back to normal condition due to recent resurfacing work, motorists heading to the east of the city or beyond to Angus are facing double trouble.
As workers headed home on the first day of the works on Tuesday, tailbacks could be seen snaking back for miles.
Traffic police sent one unit to direct motorists at the Stannergate. Head of road policing in Dundee Inspector Gordon Taylor said, "We were trying to emphasise the diversion in place but there was major congestion and it was difficult.

"We will be monitoring the situation again tonight and we used the media last night to try to get the message across but all roads in the area were difficult for drivers to negotiate.
"The council and the planners didn't anticipate the volume of traffic and the knock-on that would have on the diversions."
Dundee City Council today said it had given motorists plenty of warning.
A spokesman said, "The council took steps to ensure drivers knew about the works, highlighting them through various media channels."

Council spokesperson spouting usual nonsense, leaving commuters with a disgraceful situation, even by the shambolic standards of Dundee 'planners', who take great delight in closing a road and major alternative routes simultaneously. Plus surface dressing means road will be back to square 1 shortly.

This work was carried out less than a year ago and was undone by the weather. Have the council ensured that the work will be completed to a standard wich will withstand Scottish winters this time. How much has the this rework cost the tax payers ?

Shambolic. Have the council passed the Arbroath Road works as complete? There are large sections left untouched and quite clearly in need of repair also, the style of dressing, raising the surface, has now turned the drains effectively into potholes. Who is accountable for this mess?

What on earth is Dundee Council thinking of? Who in their right minds would close or partially close two main arterial routes in to the city around the same period? They must remember the chaos cause when they did the botch job on Dundee Road late last year. Why do we not do a proper job this time?

A little balance here people! There are bigger things in life to worry than a bit of a hold-up due to road works. We have all complained about the state of the roads and now something is being done. You just have to take the rough with the smooth - at least it is only 5 days.

@CR - If the council did it properly, there would be less complaints. Currently they are doing the equivalent of putting a sticking plaster on someone who has had their leg cut off and is bleeding heavily. This is another pointless waste of money and frustrates everyone.

If common sense prevailed, surely the work could be carried out during school holidays when traffic is partially reduced on main routes.

If non-Dundonians don't like the situation, feel free to get a job in Angus. That would also reduce cars on our roads.
