The 18-strong delegation arrived in Tayside to take part in an innovative ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) summer school.

Over the two-week course they will experience a typical ceilidh night, find out what it is like to record a top pop hit in a professional recording studio, and even get the opportunity to play one of the UK's hottest new video game releases with the developers.

The initiative is run by new Dundee-based company Immersive Language Experiences (ILE).

Director Ged Grimes, who plays bass for Simple Minds, came up with the idea together with the company's co-director, wife Tricia, a former college lecturer and training consultant.

"This is light years away from the conventional methods of teaching English.

"The visiting students will have the unique opportunity to pair up with a Dundee 'buddy' for a range of exciting activities which will allow the students to practise and develop their English speaking and listening skills in a relaxed, social environment," said Tricia.

The programme, based at the Discovery Point Centre, will include around 30 hours of daily language skills classes, with a strong emphasis on communicative learning.

During their stay, students will be paired with local host families who will not only provide accommodation and meals but also the perfect setting for a real insight into Scottish life.

At the end of the course, students receive a certificate detailing their progress, and study suggestions.
