Attracting the museum would be a huge coup for the city and a partnership involving Dundee City Council, the V&A, Dundee and Abertay universities and Scottish Enterprise is working hard to achieve the dream.
However, the council has now voiced its concerns that the biomass plant, which would be very visible on a site to the east of that planned for the museum, could potentially scupper the V&A project.
The biomass plant proposal was the subject of a Scottish Government "scoping opinion," which provides advice and guidance to developers.
As one of the consultees, the city council submitted a lengthy response detailing a number of issues it would like to see addressed if the government is asked to rule on whether or not the plant should go ahead.
The council's comment included the passage, "The proposal by Dundee City Council and its partners to attract the V&A to locate at Dundee waterfront should be factored into the environmental assessment to confirm that the location and visual impact of the biomass plant will not have a negative impact in the achievement of this objective."
Council leader Ken Guild said the Design Dundee Ltd partnership was determined to secure the museum.
He added, "From the information we have, there is nothing to suggest that the V&A would be put off from coming to Dundee by the presence of the biomass plant.
"It is something we have pointed out and would expect the Scottish Government to take it into account."
He said that as far as he was aware the two sites were about a mile apart.
