Tokheim says Dundee lay-offs are the result of seasonal fluctuations

The workers at Tokheim on West Pitkerro Industrial Estate have been told their services are no longer required.
Approximately 50 temporary and agency staff were let go at the end of last week, while a further 30 went just over a week ago.
Those affected come from a variety of different teams across the factory's workforce and include a number of younger workers.
Company HR chief Dave Shedden said the temporary job losses came as a result of Tokheim's success over the last 12 months.
He said the firm had taken on more temporary staff to meet exceptional demand — but now had to let them go during a quieter time of year.
''We have increased our permanent workforce over the last year and have still been very, very busy, so we've been running with a lot of agency staff,'' he said.
''We've been moving into markets we weren't in before — like the Middle East and Africa — and that's made us very busy.
''But the first three months of the year are — and have always been — our lowest production months because we have less in our order book. We're bringing our staffing in line with our requirements.''
He said Tokheim still had between 40 and 45 agency staff on shift, alongside the firm's 300 permanent workers, and added that the company hoped to recruit again later in the year.
In December the company announced a refinancing initiative, with senior officers remaining bullish despite the collapse of a potential takeover.
In a statement, president Patrick Berthon and chief executive Baudouin de la Tour blamed banks for pulling out of the deal.
