Councillor Bob Duncan, convener of the leisure, arts and communities committee that has responsibility for cemeteries, said, "Dundee is quite well-off for burial ground at the moment, and we have plans in place for new cemetery provision."
Pressure on burial space nationally has been highlighted in a Scottish Government consultation about modernising rules on death certification, burial and cremation.
Among the suggestions made to tackle the issue is the re-use of plots by digging up old remains, placing them in a small container and then re-burying them at a greater depth to allow future burials in the same lair.
The Church of Scotland has supported the idea, but concern has been expressed by the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities and the Muslim Council of Scotland.
Mr Duncan said there is still space at Birkhill and there are advanced plans to extend that cemetery.
In addition, a preferred site for a new cemetery has been identified on land to the north of the West Pitkerro Industrial Estate and initial investigations have concluded that it is suitable.
"We are not anticipating problems with shortages of burial plots in Dundee," said Mr Duncan.

I was under the impression that the old football pitch used by NCR amateurs at the top of Old Craigie Road was earmarked for cemetry use? If not, can it be used again for a football team??
