Abertay University ready to help Realtime Worlds staff

The principal and vice-chancellor of Abertay University — which has a close association with Realtime Worlds — says he is "deeply saddened" by the news of it entering administration.

Profesor Bernard King said, "We sincerely hope that the necessary restructuring will be completed swiftly to allow the business to go forward.

"As the jewel in the crown of Dundee's computer games development sector, Realtime Worlds epitomises the creativity and determination of the entire Scottish industry.

"It is unfortunate that market conditions have dictated this drastic step.

"We are confident that the enormous wealth of talent assembled by Realtime Worlds in Dundee over many years will open up new opportunities for all the individuals concerned.

"RTW's APB and MyWorld products demonstrate a unique ability to innovate in gamesplay and narrative structure. We are sure that the market for such assets remains strong."

He added, "Abertay is ready to deploy all its resources, including the new games industry business support mechanism launched by the UK Government last month, to support whatever new business structures might emerge from Realtime Worlds' administration process.

"We will work closely with the company, and with all other agencies that might be able to help."
