Mike and Deb Reddy from Kansas sent flowers and a teddy bear to St Clement's Primary pupil Rhianna Kidd (10) after reading of her ordeal online.
The story brought back memories of the attack on their own daughter Jordan, prompting the family to get in contact to show their support.
Rhianna's mum Lisa Grady says she is touched by the gesture and she thanked the Reddy family and the dozens of other well-wishers who have sent gifts, money and cards.
"Rhianna got flowers with a nice vase to put them in, a card and a teddy bear from a couple in Kansas whose seven-year-old daughter Jordan had been attacked by a dog," said Lisa.
"They didn't leave an address for me to get back to them and I have looked online but couldn't find anything.
"There were lots of cards and gifts sent to the hospital and people have sent in money so she can buy toys and games for her computer.
"We have been up to Toys R Us so she can pick a few things out."
Rhianna, who was allowed home from hospital earlier this week, has spent much of her time since writing 'thank you' cards to all the people who have sent gifts.
Among those who wished her a speedy recovery was Big Brother winner Josie Gibson, while another large card came from friends at local dance group Funky Feet.
There are no immediate plans for the youngster to go back to school, but the family have been in contact to discuss arrangements.
Lisa said, "I was talking to the head teacher today about when she will come back, but she has a lot of stitches and doesn't want to go back while they are still there.
"We have arranged to pick up some work for her next week so she doesn't fall too far behind."
The Grady family have been swamped by the media since Rhianna was pulled from her bike by two large dogs on August 29, suffering injuries to her face, neck, arms, legs and left ear.
Rhianna's experience has not put her off dogs as she has been spending time with the family's pet Yorkshire terrier Casper.
A 33-year-old woman has been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act in connection with the incident and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Two dogs and a puppy were destroyed the day after the attack with the owner's permission.
