Eden Angling Association puts fish back into the river

The river Eden has been restocked with around 15,000 trout following the pollution incident last year that killed an estimated 4000 to 5000 fish.

The Lady Burn

Last November, members of Eden Angling Association discovered the dead fish in the Lady Burn at Cupar, which flows into the Eden.

It was thought someone poured  a substance down a surface water drain which discharged into the  burn, although an investigation by the  Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) failed to find the source of the pollution.

Members of the association have now restocked the Eden, Ceres Burn and Lady Burn with young trout as well as adding some 500 adult fish to the main river.

Association secretary Ian Young said, "The restocking has been made  possible thanks to £500 of funding from Cupar's Bruce Trust and contributions from members."

Although more than 15,000 trout have been added to the river, Mr Young expects only around 10% to survive, with predators, such as herons and kingfishers, taking the rest.
