The family-friendly village local, famed for its varieties of real ale, already holds the title of Scotland and Northern Ireland Pub of the Year as well as finishing 7th in the UK version of the competition last year.

Landlord Robbie Hunter and wife Pat took over the Main Street pub in 2005.

Mr. Hunter spoke of their delight at again scooping the high profile award.

"It's fantastic. It allows us to go forward and compete for the Scotland and Northern Ireland Pub of the Year title again.

"If we do well in that we can compete in the UK version as well," said Mr Hunter, who began to run the Albert Tavern following his retirement as a project manager for a mining company.

Since winning the same title last year the pub has seen an increase in the number of real ale drinkers coming through its doors.

"They come from all over Scotland," said Mr Hunter.

The title was awarded by the Campaign for Real Ale, which compared pubs across the area.
