Employees at the Bank of Scotland branch in the Kingdom Centre became suspicious when the 82-year-old customer tried to withdraw a large sum of money for roof repairs.

The staff were aware that the gentleman, a longstanding customer, was a council tenant and advised him it was the council's responsibility to carry out repairs.

The customer told them a man had knocked on the door of his home in Kinglassie to tell him he needed work carried out urgently.

As he had no money the man offered to drive him to the bank and was led around the corner to a van being driven by another man and then taken to the bank.

Staff called the firm the men said they were from and found this to be false. The police were then called, but the men have yet to be traced.

Congratulations Bank of Scotland for not only being my own bank, but the important "eyes and ears" of the elderly. We need more of your kind to protect the vulnerable. What a blessing you have been to your customer. May God bless you all.

I really think the staff deserve the highest praise for this.I felt close to tears reading tha article, obviously a kind and very correct gentleman thinking he was doing the right thing by immediately attending to the repairs. Shame on those conmen. Well done RBS.

It's stories like this that make you glad the sense of community still exists in all walks of life.It reflects well on RBS that it's staff can respond to their customers as people not just account holders.Conmen are parasites who do not feel shame because if they did they could not be so brazen.

That was really good as not many people know customers by name or life style, poor wee man.lucky escape.

This was a great response from the BANK of SCOTLAND staff (not RBS), however, I'm sure that RBS staff would have reacted in a similar way. These con men need lengthy prison sentences and their vans, tools and property siezed to repay their victims.
