Anstruther Muster, which was launched 13 years ago, will see vessels of all kinds from as far afield as Bristol congregate in the harbour.

The muster is organised by Anstruther Sailing Club.

Club commodore Cairns Birrell said, "The Anstruther Muster has turned into an important date, not just for the sailing fraternity, but also for the community and for Anstruther's many summer visitors.

"A number of local businesses and community groups support the day in a variety of ways and we are always grateful for everyone's involvement."

Tonight, Grace Black and her Trio will perform at the muster marquee, followed tomorrow night by the Gallivanters Ceilidh Band. Attention turns to the boat jumble on Saturday and Sunday.

Other attractions include a model boat club exhibition in the Scottish Fisheries Museum, stalls, face painting, demonstrations in cookery and cocktail making and Highland dancing displays.

The marquee will also host an afternoon disco for children on Saturday, followed by dancing in the evening to the Obsession function band and Eric Stardust Disco.

When the muster was first held in 1997, in an attempt to help regenerate Anstruther harbour, only nine boats attended, mostly from just along the coast at Elie.
