Another accident on A92 in north Fife

Police were called to a three-car accident in north Fife on Monday near the scene of where a Dundee woman lost her life in a horrific car crash only the day before.

The accident on the A92, between the Rathillet and Luthrie junction, was the third serious crash to occur on the road in nine days.

The latest smash occurred shortly before 1.30pm and involved a grey Saab, silver Vauxhall Astra and a white Ford Transit.

A police spokesman confirmed one of the vehicles had spun off the road and into a post carrying a live power cable.

Sparks of high-voltage electricity could be seen within feet of the cars and their passengers.

No one was seriously hurt but a male was taken to Ninewells Hospital suffering a shoulder injury.

Scottish Power engineers cut off the electricity for several hours as they carried out repairs. Police closed the stretch of road from Rathillet to Luthrie until 4.30pm.

The incident follows the death of 34-year-old Dundee woman Lorna Grant.

She was killed on Sunday afternoon when the Renault Clio she was driving was involved in a collision with a Volvo 4x4.

The previous weekend, 54-year-old Methil man George Izatt died and four others were injured in a head-on collision, also on the A92 near Luthrie.
