Fife Constabulary said the move followed a number of river patrols involving the police and river bailiffs in response to reports from the angling community, councillors and the general public.
Wildlife and environmental crime co-ordinator Constable Ian Laing said, "The partnership working with bailiffs from the Forth District Salmon Fisheries Board is a positive development and one that brings added value through information sharing and drawing on the experience of both organisations.
"Further deployments will continue and will evolve to make best use of resources and technology in detecting those carrying out this type of crime."
He added, "I would ask the public to be aware of being offered cheap salmon as the festive season approaches.
"Salmon poaching, as with other forms of crime, can impact on future stocks and puts cash into the hands of criminals."
