One person died and five were hurt, one critically, in an accident on the A92 Dundee/Kirkcaldy in Fife in the early hours of Sunday.
Meanwhile two pedestrians died on Saturday.
One, Liam Connelly (23) from Dundee, was involved in a collision with a lorry on the outskirts of the city at 1pm as he crossed the A90 (see separate report).
The other, a 31-year-old man, died when he was involved in a collision with a white car as he walked on the southbound carriageway of the A82 near Luss, Loch Lomond, at 10.30pm.
And one motorcyclist was killed and three injured in separate accidents.
The A92 accident occurred near Luthrie junction.
The road was closed for several hours as the scene was cleared and investigations took place.
Fife victims
It is understood all those involved are from central Fife, although no names have yet been released.
Police said the accident involved a green Ford Focus and a blue MG and occurred around 5.40am.
The fatality, a middle-aged man, was driving one of the cars.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
The most seriously injured victim was said to be critically ill, and undergoing surgery at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Wreckage
Emergency services were called to the scene, and firefighters freed two people from the wreckage.
As the investigation continues, the police say they would like to speak to anyone who might have seen the accident or been in the area at the time.
Diversions were put in place while the road was closed.
It reopened early in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, five casualties were taken to Ninewells Hospital after a two-vehicle smash on the outskirts of Dundee on Sunday morning.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment as they freed one man trapped in his car.
