The gong presented to Blairgowrie PC Grev Humphrey recognises outstanding personal contributions to country life and communities.

The Bridge of Cally post office was also a winner for a second year in the best village shop/post office category at the awards ceremony in the Scottish Parliament.

In his spare time, PC Humphrey drives the activities of Angling for Youth Development, a charity which has introduced young people of all backgrounds and abilities to the sport through expert instruction in game, course and sea fishing.

The winners, nominated by the public and judged from shortlists through personal visits by a panel of experts, will go on to represent Scotland in a Great Britain-wide competition whose winners will be announced at a House of Commons ceremony in February.

The awards were presented by Angus MSP Andrew Welsh, who said, "These awards recognise the enthusiasm, hard work and innovation of people in businesses and organisations which are so vital to rural Scotland's well being and quality of life."
