Five caravans and a pick-up truck have been parked on a small patch of grass beside the A85 Dundee road for more than a week.
Only a small fence separates the site from the busy road — prompting safety worries.
Police confirmed they had been contacted by Transport Scotland, which owns the land, and a Notice to Quit will be served on the owners of the vehicles today, giving them 24 hours to move on.
A police spokesman said, "We will continue to monitor the situation."
One driver, who commutes from Perth to Dundee during the week, contacted The Courier concerned the occupants of the caravans might try to cross the road.
"I was passing the site when it was getting dark on Tuesday evening and could see a few people standing right by the fence — it's an accident waiting to happen," she said.
"It's a fast bit of road as cars have just come off the A90 and round a bend."
Another local said, "We aren't complaining because they are members of the travelling community — we are complaining because they are so close to the road. Someone is going to get hurt."
He added, "It will also be dangerous when they do decide to move. They'll have to manoeuvre out of the site right into oncoming traffic."
A Transport Scotland spokeswoman said, "To ensure the integrity of the trunk road network, essential bridge works will be undertaken in this area in the near future.
"That is why Transport Scotland continues to liaise with the local council, police and the travelling community in order that the matter can be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties."
