A special match was played on Sunday between the club's present team and Falkland Cricket Club to mark the quarter-century since Freuchie beat the odds to take the National Village Championship on September 1, 1985.

Watching were some of the 1985 squad, including captain Dave Christie.

During the afternoon, some of the famous 13 also planted apple and pear trees — one in honour of each member of the team — in the grounds of Freuchie Primary School.

Mr Christie, who remains the club's groundsman, said, "It was superb for the boys to be here today."

Other Lord's winners present were Mr Christie's son Brian, vice-captain David Cowan, Fraser Irvine, Andy Crichton, George Crichton, Mark Wilkie, Alan Duncan, Stewart Irvine and Pete Hepplewhite.

Among the special guests were local MP Sir Menzies Campbell, who described the win at Lord's as "quite remarkable."

Cricket Scotland president Bob McFarlane joined the celebrations and said, "It was quite a magnificent achievement.

"They put cricket in Scotland on the map forever."
