Proposal for 79m Bridgefoot turbine promises cash for community
A 79-metre wind turbine could be put up on farmland north of Dundee, generating cash for the community as well as electricity.

The planning application for the site at Wynton Farm, near Bridgefoot, has come from Hamilton firm Intelligent Land Investment.
The company is also involved in a proposal announced in April for a turbine on agricultural land a few miles away, near Inveraldie.
A document supporting its application to Angus Council states that it "focuses on creating planning gain for renewable energy projects" and works closely with landowners to "create commercially viable ventures where all parties benefit."
This includes paying £2500 a year to a community group for the expected 20 to 25-year lifespan of the turbine.
No prospective recipient has been identified at this stage, but the company says it hopes to find a suitable one based with 5km of the Wynton site.
The three-bladed turbine, which would have a 500 kilowatt capacity, is planned for a spot 670m south-east of Wynton farmhouse. The nearest house would be 535m away.
The document, prepared by renewable energy consultants Logan, claims that the turbine would not produce unacceptable levels of noise or shadow flicker.
It notes that there are turbines north of the city and adds, "The closest area, most likely to experience cumulative impact from the turbines, hosts extensive electricity transmission infrastructure.
"The proposed turbine would present a tall but simple, clean structure, unlike the existing pylons.
"For these reasons it is considered that any adverse cumulative impact due to this proposal would not be significantly adverse and would not be sufficient to warrant refusal of this application."

What a nerve...a 500kw turbine will generate 250 grand per year...so the community puts up with this monstrosity for 1% of the income. Meantime all consumers bills will double in the next decade to subsidise the feed in tarriff for this complete turbine scam. My advice is tell them where to go!

It might generate 250k/yr (when operating at full capacity), but how much does one cost to buy and install? Also, I don't think they're that bad. One has recently been installed near us and although I originally had reservations, I don't think it's had any negative impact on our surroundings.

The one at Auchterhouse hardly ever works. Why...because the rural grid can't handle it! So it is stuck up there like a sore thumb doing very little. The feed in tarriff is so generous it is easily worth the owner of Wynton Farm borrowing 500k to set this up and dish out a few sweeties to the locals

I can see the two turbines at the Michelin factory from my house and I like them and have seen no evidence of a drop in house prices. All that is just scaremongering. Michelin have been getting 20% of their electricity needs from them. How is that bad? More, say I.

500k for a 500kW turbine. Need to check your prices I am afraid. It will cost around double that at least.

An excellent idea and more of the same is required across all of Scotland. More renewables - less nuclear - its the future.
