At around 2.30pm Tayside Police received a call from a party of five experienced hillwalkers to say they had become separated from the 58-year-old in white-out conditions in the Ben Lawers area.

A number of police and civilian volunteers from Tayside and Killin Mountain Rescue teams and a Royal Navy rescue helicopter were mobilised.

Shortly before 9pm the man, who had fallen 50ft through a snow cornice and injured his knee, managed to walk to a farm near Glen Lyon to seek help.

After being assessed at the scene, he was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary.

A spokesman for Tayside Mountain Rescue thanked all involved for their efforts.
