The occasion was witnessed by enthusiasts who queued up a short distance from the runaway, and by members of the media, who were allowed into the Fife air base to take part in a preview day ahead of the airshow.
The arrival had added significance for the co-owners of an Arbroath aviation art company that was given the responsibility of designing the distinctive shield on the tail of the jets.
Berry Vissers of Squadron Prints said the firm was approached to come up with a contemporary design that retained the squadron's history.
Around six months later the final drawing of a flying tin opener set against a blue background was settled on.
"In the second world war the squadron were used for anti-tank missions, and when they hit them it looked like a can had burst open.
"They got the nickname of can opener from that," he said.
The firm carried out the work free of charge, and "was delighted just to be part of a new chapter for the squadron."
