Earlier this year the mummified remains of a baby and foetus were discovered in the basement of a Los Angeles apartment block, in a trunk which also contained copies of 1930s newspapers and Peter Pan-related memorabilia.
Two women found the babies when they looked into a doctor's bag in the trunk.
It is not known if the babies were born alive or had been miscarried or aborted.
One of them, a girl, was apparently newborn and extremely well-preserved.
She had thick brown hair and her arms lay by her sides while her legs were folded up to her chest.
The other was smaller and in worse condition.
It is believed it could have been a foetus or born prematurely.
There were no signs of trauma to the babies.
The trunk and initials J. M. B sparked the theory that the case may somehow be connected to Angus and the Kirriemuir-born writer.
However, investigators found it to be the property of Janet M. Barrie, who emigrated to the US from Scotland in the mid-1920s.
She was the nurse for a Los Angeles dentist but 18 years ago died in Canada.
DNA evidence has proved she was the babies' mother.
Police say the case is closed as there is no evidence the babies were murdered.
