Cadamarteri to fight for Dundee United place

Danny Cadamarteri has vowed to force his way into the Dundee United first-team after the transfer deadline passed and he remained at Tannadice.

Cadamarteri was one of three players told by United last month that they would be allowed to leave.

However, unlike Fran Sandaza and Jennison Myrie-Williams — who both agreed severance deals — he stayed put.

Now the front man, currently recovering from a groin problem, intends to press his claims for a regular start.

"I'm delighted to have got through the transfer window and still be here,'' he said. "It was and wasn't a shock when the club said they'd listen to offers.

"The manager made me aware of the financial situation and that he'd been asked by the chairman to do a few things.

"What he said was that if something came up which was of interest to me and my family then the club wouldn't be hard to deal with.

"If nothing came up then nothing would change. I've settled well here, my wife is starting a new job and I've signed a let on the property I'm in for another 10 months.

"Those are the things that people don't think about. They assume a footballer can just up sticks and leave just like that.

"But, as I said, the window is shut and I'm still here, so I just want to focus on my football now.''

With Sandaza having moved on and Damian Casalinuovo sold to Hamilton, suddenly the path to the starting line-up isn't quite so congested.

However, Cadamarteri realises he'll still have to make a case for himself.

"We've had a few departures this week but there is still competition for strikers,'' he said.

"I will need to work hard and give it my best shot when I get a crack at the first team again.

"Things can change quickly in football, all it needs is an injury or suspension and you're back in again. So I'll just do my best in training and hopefully work my way into the manager's plans.''

  • Meanwhile, Hearts are leading the chase for Myrie-Williams. The Jam Tarts have contacted his agent, Jamie Holsgrove while St Johnstone and Notts County are also reputed to be considering offering the wide man a deal. "There has been a lot of interest in Jeno since he left Dundee United,'' said Holsgrove. "Clubs are aware of what he has to offer so we'll see what happens."
  •  The Ross County v Dundee Utd Co-operative Insurance Cup tie on Wednesday, September 22, (ko 7.30pm) will be screened live on BBC 2 Scotland.
