The 21-year-old from Blair Atholl couldn't see out of one eye and has been prescribed a collection of drugs to try to combat the infection and bring down the swelling.

Eve was in Dumfries-shire representing the Perth and Kinross side in the Scottish Women's County Championship finals. She was stung on the fairways of Dumfries and County Golf Club on Friday while playing against the host team.

It wasn't until Sunday, however, that the full effects of the sting kicked in, when the 2010 World Championship silver medal-winning skip woke to find her eye had swollen dramatically and closed completely.

Her dad had to drive south to bring her back to Perthshire, and she is now facing a race against time for the infection to clear up ahead of the start of the curling season in Norway later this week.

Eve told The Courier: "I got stung on the forehead on the course on Friday and didn't think much of it. My eye was a bit bloodshot on Saturday and my mum actually told me I should get it checked out.

"But on Sunday I couldn't open my eye so I was taken to accident and emergency at a local hospital. The eye is massive and I can only open it by about a millimetre.

"The doctors have prescribed loads of drugs for me and hopefully they'll work. I've obviously suffered some sort of delayed allergic reaction.

"We fly out to Oslo on Wednesday and I'm hoping the eye will be fine by then."

Eve is a three-handicap golfer and won six out of six of her matches in the regional qualifiers to help Perthshire win through to the weekend finals.

She obviously had to miss the last day's play on Sunday, but the team weren't in contention to take the title as they had already lost to Dumfries and Midlothian on Friday and Saturday.
