The Scottish Dairy Farm of the Year title was won by David Hamilton and his team at Meldrum, Blairdrummond.

Judge Gregor Colquhoun of the team at Denoldrum Farm, Inverbervie, which has taken the title twice in the past said the cow comfort at Meldrum and cubicle cleanliness was the best he had ever seen.

“This translated to great cows that were very sound on their feet with no hock damage and very clean legs and udders,” he said.

“Attention to detail was first class, and staff management, the monitors and protocols in place were impressive for such a large herd (660 Holsteins).”

Among the three runners-up for the AgriScot award was north-east farmer Ronald Barron, who milks 269 Holsteins at Darrahill, Udny.

Meamnwhile a Berwickshire farming family, who run the Wedderlie pedigree herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, won the Scotch Beef Farm of the Year title.

John and Marion Tilson and their daughter Wanda Hobbs run a 2,500-acre mixed enterprise at Wedderlie Farm.

This comprises 200 pedigree Aberdeen-Angus cows and a flock of 1,750 ewes, which are a mix of Cheviots, Blackface, Mules and Texel crosses.

They were described as a “dedicated family committed to producing top quality Scotch Beef PGI”.

The award, run by AgriScot and Quality Meat Scotland, aims to reward excellence in the production of cattle in Scotland.
