Glacier Energy Services adds to Fife presence

Demand is rising, said Jim McAleese of Glacier.
Demand is rising, said Jim McAleese of Glacier.

A specialist energy services firm is boosting its presence in Fife after seeing rising orders in its heat exchange business.

Glacier Energy Services (GES) is creating a total of 12 new roles at its workshop and warehouse facility at Dalgety Bay and its offshore operations headquarters in Aberdeen.

The group’s heat exchange business, which moved into premises at St David’s Business Park in the Fife town last June, is on a recruitment drive for 11 new positions in Fife, ranging from receptionist to quality manager and offshore technician.

Despite the dramatic oil price fall of recent months, Glacier’s heat transfer division managing director Jim McAleese said the firm is continuing to see demand for its services increase.

“Inspection, repair and maintenance activities on existing assets remain active.

“These new posts will help us meet consistent demand from operators and asset owners,” Mr McAleese said.

Glacier was formed in 2011 through a management buyout of Roberts Pipeline Machining and Wellclad from MB Aerospace. It has grown to a £30 million turnover firm with a staff of more than 240.

Last spring it acquired Methil-based PTS a firm providing non-destructive testing services to the oil and gas and offshore renewables sectors in a deal valued at around £5m, and it added MSL Heat Transfer to its portfolio last autumn.

Following the purchase, the company moved to rationalise its structures and brought together MSL and Ross Offshore under a single new heat transfer banner.

Mr McAleese added: “We hope these new jobs will be a welcome boost to the region, and a chance for those interested in working in the oil and gas sector to join a company where there is a strong supply of future work and plenty of opportunities for progressing within the business.”

The GES group also has operations in Glasgow, Newcastle and Singapore. It provides support services to oil and gas platforms and vessels, windfarms and other energy and petrochemicals infrastructure.
