In a move first announced in November last year, April sees the formation of a locally based accountancy firm boasting staffing resources in excess of 100 people.

EQ Accountants LLP, headquartered in Dundee and with another large office in Forfar, welcomes to the fold Carters Accountants offices in Glenrothes and Cupar.

David Cameron, managing partner of EQ, said: “We are delighted to welcome on-board over 40 people who will be working in EQ’s Fife offices, and who will strengthen what is already a formidable resource.

“We are completely focused on supporting the business community in our primary geographic territory, and continuing to expand upon our reputation for quality of service and innovation. Each of our firms has benefited for many years from maintaining excellent relationships with the business communities in Tayside and Fife, and we believe that it is important to retain this approach.

“We have also established ourselves as an “Employer of Choice” within our region, and the quality of talent which we have at our disposal is exceptional. ”

The firm will operate under the EQ brand, and in the first instance as “EQ @ Carters” in Fife, reflecting the importance of the Carters brand and the strong foundation that was established over many years.

“The move will see a very significant investment by EQ, estimated to be in excess of £500k, ensuring that each of the firm’s offices has the appropriate resources available to most effectively support clients.

Stephen Taylor, managing partner at Carters, echoed the views of David Cameron.

“We are all very excited by the coming together of our two firms and I am delighted to see us create what I believe will be one of the most competent and innovative firms of Chartered Accountants in Scotland. EQ’s first priority at all times is client service, and in that regard Carters are a perfect fit for this merger.”

The newly merged firm is estimated to achieve a turnover in the first full year in excess of £6.5 million, and as well as securing the employment of more than 100 people immediately, is also expected to increase this number through growth across all areas of the practice.

Agricultural “centre of excellence” in Cupar

As part of the expansion plans of EQ through the merger with Carters, they are taking the opportunity to relocate a number of key personnel to the Cupar office.

The offices which are centrally positioned at 58 Bonnygate, within the town, will be expanded to accommodate up to 10 new members of the team.

However, in the immediate future resources will be extended by the relocation from Forfar of Mark Wilken as partner, as well as Robert Close and Scott Greig in senior support roles.

David Cameron said: “We believe that we have a fantastic opportunity to replicate our service offering in our Forfar office to the rural community within Fife, and establish another agricultural centre of excellence.

“Our knowledge of the sector and our ability to advise clients is exceptional, and Mark and his colleagues moving to Cupar will supplement what is already a strong team.

“As one of our accredited specialists, and with his extensive background in farm management, Mark is almost uniquely placed to offer consultancy support to this very important sector.”
