A £120 million work book and increasing staff numbers has seen the Robertson Group expand its Tayside operation with the opening of a new office.

One of the UK’s largest privately owned infrastructure firms has unveiled its new regional base, Robertson House, in Dundee.

The building on George Buckman Drive is the new office home to 56 staff across Robertson’s construction, facilities management and special projects divisions.

It also marks a new beginning for the former headquarters of collapsed building company Muirfield Contracts, about 40 of whose former employees have been recruited by Robertson.

The expansion of Robertson Tayside comes during a significant period of growth for the group, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. Founder and executive chairman Bill Robertson, said: “In opening Robertson House we have made a firm commitment to the communities of Tayside and the wider area.

“With a focus on creating a strong, skilled local workforce and vibrant construction sector across the east coast, Robertson Tayside has become a significant part of our growth plans.

“We have started on a very firm footing with more than £122 million of work under way already. This is not the end of our ambitions and we look upon our success so far as offering a very solid platform for further growth.

“With a further £120m of work in the pipeline and £50m of potential work identified by our team, we are already on course to deliver this.”

The contracts being delivered by Robertson Tayside include the £30m new campus for Harris Academy in Dundee, the £25m Brechin Community Campus project and the £15m refurbishment of Perth Theatre.

Derek Shewan, Robertson’s chief operating officer, said: “We have a long history in the Tayside area, including building and maintaining six primary and two secondary schools for Dundee City Council.

“The opening of our latest office in Dundee, Robertson House, is a significant milestone for the company.

“Our current order book is very encouraging and underlines the fact that we are the largest contractor in the Tayside area.”

The local supply chain also benefits from the success of the group which employs more than 1,600 people across the UK. This year Robertson’s turnover rose by 20% to £300m. The group is on track to double that figure over the next three years.
