T in the Park: Balado’s last party gets off to a sun-kissed start

Blue skies and sunshine welcomed tens of thousands of revellers to the final T in the Park at Balado.

And Scottish talent shone through on the opening night ahead of the festival’s move to Strathallan Castle next year.

Police reported no serious incidents as the crowds by and large behaved themselves upon arrival in Kinross-shire.

Ayrshire’s Biffy Clyro headlined the main stage 15 years after their first appearance as an unsigned band, treating the crowd to some of their greatest hits in a spectacular set, while Glasgow’s Chvrches and Dundee’s Vladimir were highlights on the smaller stages.

Also wowing the crowds were stars Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding alongside festival favourites Manic Street Preachers and cult heroes Pixies.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere today and an incredible buzz amongst the fans, who are as excited as we are about the weekend ahead.

“We hope everyone has a great time, and we can’t wait to celebrate one final year of T in the Park at Balado with the greatest audience in the world.”

Today will see Calvin Harris headline with superstar Pharrell Williams and Paolo Nutini also gracing the main stage.

Local acts the Moon Kids, Fat Goth and Copper Lungs will also perform.
