Short haul winter getaways

Now that the festivities are over, many of us are turning our thoughts to a holiday to recover from the stress of Christmas or simply just to chase away those January blues.

It’s becoming more and more popular to take a holiday out of season these days, unless of course you have school age children, in which case it’s not always possible to take advantage of late deals and good prices out with school holiday periods.

Although, February half term will soon be upon us and there’s still some great deals to be had for families even if purse strings are tight. For those of you with the freedom to go at anytime, the world really is your oyster and we’ve found a few pearls to help you jet off for some well-deserved winter sun.

There’s no shortage of destinations available for the coming weeks and months. More often than not, from January to March, British weather is pretty awful and we spend much of our time piling on extra layers and turning up the thermostat for the central heating.

This in itself can prove costly so why not take yourself off to sunnier climes and enjoy some natural warmth and banish the winter chill.

Talkholiday have plenty of inspiration if you need some help choosing where to go. Obviously, for this time of year, weather has to be a consideration and the best of the European winter sunshine is usually found in The Canary Islands and Spain’s Malaga province on the south coast.

Average highs expected in January:

Gran Canaria : 18/20

Costa Del Sol : 17

Lanzarote : 18/20

Cape Verde : 23

Tenerife : 18/20

Costa Blanca : 16

We’ve found some great ideas to suit every budget too. Choose from five star luxury to cheap and cheerful plus a decent choice of flights to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Portugal and Spain and more.

Tenerife is a brilliant bolthole for the winter. Its attractions stay open all year round and likely to be less crowded than the summer months. Plus, if you happen to visit between 3-14 February, you can enjoy the famous Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival.

Neighbouring Lanzarote is also a great choice for escaping the winter chill. Thanks to the island’s location, just off the coast of Africa, Lanzarote enjoys year round sun and you could be soaking up some rays on one of its many beaches.

There’s really something for everyone and every pocket so there’s no reason to stay behind and endure these gloomy months. Check out these great winter holiday ideas for January and February from talkholiday
