Dundee girl’s Ben Nevis bikini mission

A daring Dundonian is set to swap traditional mountain gear for beachwear as she hits the charity heights by scaling Ben Nevis this summer.

Although around 100,000 people climb Scotland’s highest mountain every year, Jolene Clark could become the first to do so in a bikini.

The 24-year-old hairdresser settled on the madcap venture to raise cash for the cystic fibrosis unit at Ninewells after losing her brother, Stuart Clark, to the condition shortly before Christmas.

She said, “My brother wanted money to go towards research and I thought Ninewells would be the best place.

“I chose the bikini idea because it’s so randomly crazy, but if it makes people want to sponsor me that little bit extra, then it will be worth every penny.

“Stuart was very much one for getting on with life and I wanted to do something that would reflect that.”Weather warningFor obvious reasons, Jolene has pencilled in a late July or early — August weekend for the trek but is well aware inclement weather could strike at any time.

She said, “I have done a lot of research and know what I could be up against weather-wise — I’m not taking it lightly.

“So it will just be the jacket and bikini unless the weather really turns!”

The scale of climb will be new to Jolene, who works at SPS Hairdressing in Albert Street, but she is used to tramping through the Angus hills and has even hired a personal trainer to help her prepare.Anyone wishing to sponsor Jolene in her venture can do so by calling 07933060126. She also hopes to have a Justgiving website for donations set up soon.
