Angus childcare boss to face misconduct charge

Angus childcare boss to face misconduct charge

An Angus childcare worker will appear before a Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) conduct sub-committee in Dundee.

Dianne Brown is accused of a charge of misconduct which includes inappropriate restraint and referring to a child in a photograph as “a bit spastic”.

The hearing will take place at the SSSC at Riverside House between Monday August 10 and Wednesday 12.

The charge has four sections and relate to May 2014 while Brown was employed as manager of Busy Bee Nursery in Montrose.

The first part of the charge alleges that on May 22 2014 she stated “the child looks a bit spastic in the photo” or words to that effect, when referring to a photograph of a service user.

The second part of the charge relates to May 30 2014 when it is alleged she used an inappropriate restraint by placing a four-year-old child in a buggy in a baby room and putting the restraining straps on the child as a means of managing the child’s “challenging behaviour”.

The final two parts of the charge which relate to the same child are also alleged to have happened on that date.

Brown is alleged to have stated to the child while she was in the buggy in the baby room: “Oh look, even the babies are laughing at you,” or words to that effect.

The final part of the charge is that she is alleged to have stated: “If you are going to act like a baby I will treat you like a baby,” or words to that effect.

The conduct sub-committee will consider whether the charge is proven.

If proven, it will then have to decide whether the charge constitutes misconduct and whether the worker has breached the Code of Practice.
