Angus is to get another two publicly accessible electric vehicle charging points, thanks to a grant from Transport Scotland.

Sites in Kirriemuir and the Brechin/Stracathro area are being considered and installation of the equipment will be completed by March.

The £22,000 project is part of a drive to make it easier and more convenient for people to use electric vehicles.

There are already around 300 charging points in Scotland, including ones at the Angus House council offices in Forfar, Arbroath Harbour and Montrose Leisure Centre.

A council report said: “Building on the network, it is planned in the first instance to develop sites in Kirriemuir to serve the north of the A90 and provide an opportunity for electric vehicles to access the Angus glens and Brechin/Stracathro to further develop the A90/north Angus areas.

“Depending on the outcome of site identification and in anticipation of potential future years funding, suitable sites in the Monifieth/Carnoustie area will also be explored.”

Transport Scotland plans to deploy a network of rapid chargers at intervals of at least every 50 miles on Scotland’s primary road network.
