The world-famous RAF Red Arrows display team will perform in Arbroath this summer to honour the town’s heroes.
The display team will visit the town for the first time in more than 10 years at the Arbroath Festival of Heroes, which is planned for Saturday June 4.
The festival’s organising committee said the performance by the Red Arrows will put the event “into a different league”.
The first-ever Arbroath Festival of Heroes is due to take place at Victoria Park which has previously played host to the Angus Show and the Seafront Spectacular.
The event is a joint collaboration between the members of the previously staged Armed Forces and Emergency Services Parade and Arbroath Round Table.
It will also recognise local heroes from the community and the services with 10,000 people expected to be in attendance.
Jamie Buchan has taken the helm and he said the organising committee are “hugely excited” about the Red Arrows’ performance.
He said: “It is some 11 years since the team have visited the town and it is a most welcome attraction to the event and the committee are hugely excited about it all.
“This event encompasses the previously staged Armed Forces and Emergency Services Parade and this along with the attendance of the Red Arrows and other exciting military and emergency services assets puts the event into a different league, in which many more plans have to be put in place with the air, land and sea theme.
“Some additional health and safety requirements have to be catered for, with an increased crowd expected, thereby increasing the running costs.
“This in turn will make the financial challenge of staging the event even greater but the committee are confident that, with the people of Angus behind them, that they will stage the event and keep it free-entry.”
Mr Buchan said some great fundraising initiatives are already being planned to make sure the festival goes ahead and the town’s local heroes are honoured.
