An Angus bridge could be reduced to single-lane traffic for 11 weeks to allow repairs to take place.
Works are planned to strengthen Tayock Burn Bridge, on Brechin Road in Montrose, amid fears heavy goods vehicles are damaging the 18th-century structure.
Angus Council has lodged plans to strengthen the Grade C listed bridge, at an estimated cost of £35,000. If the proposals are approved, works will start on August 18.
During this time the bridge will be reduced to a single lane and traffic lights will be installed.
Councillor David May said: “This has been needed for a long time because the bridge wasn’t built to cope with the current number of businesses and commuters using it.”
He added: “Commuters will have to go by Dubton or the Bridge of Dun if they do not want to wait at the traffic lights. If any part of the bridge is closed then it will be a serious issue for those who use it.”
