Reindeer can put their hooves up this weekend for the latest Santa Specials are at Brechin’s popular Caledonian Railway.
The specials are an annual success at the attraction, and this weekend a Scottish-built steam locomotive is being drafted in to haul Santa and the packed carriages of festive visitors between Brechin and Bridge of Dun, near Montrose.
Locomotive Salmon is visiting the Angus railway from Milton of Crathes station in Aberdeenshire after one of Caledonian’s own locomotives was taken out of service.
Salmon was recently brought back to Scotland after spending most of its working life in Lincolnshire.
Caledonian buffs believe it is the first time the engine has worked in Scotland since being built at the Kilmarnock locomotive works of Andrew Barclay Sons & Co in 1942.
Brechin engineering firm Hydrus Group stepped in to manufacture new steel firebars to get the engine up and running in time for the Santa trains.
Salmon will be on duty this weekend before heading north on December 22.
