An Angus father and son have vowed to achieve their dream of establishing Montrose as a top Scots music venue.

Charlie, 51, and Craig Campbell, 31, set up North East Musical and Sports Promotions earlier this year and have hit the ground running.

They have already fixed up Montrose Town Hall dates by Fife rockers Big Country and Scots music legend Donnie Munro.

Other gigs include Montrose dates for the Dangleberries, local rock band Amber Road and From the Jam, whose line-up includes original Jam member Bruce Foxton.

Charlie said they were delighted with what they’ve achieved so far, but the ambition is to keep striving to bring even bigger bands to the town in the months ahead.

Although Charlie and Craig don’t want the bands they have approached made public, The Courier can reveal they are some of the biggest names in the industry.

He told The Courier: “I’ve been to over 200 gigs as varied as Dolly Parton to Kiss and also have event management experience having run an American football team for 12 years.

“After years of travelling across the UK to concerts, Craig felt it was time to bring regular music to Montrose and I wanted to join him to drive this dream forward.

“We are bringing top-quality music to Montrose while keeping the events at an affordable price, with all our concerts at £22 and below.

“We aim to have shows approximately every two or three months, with plans for a large summer outdoor event every year.

“We are really delighted with the support we have had up until now. Lots of top quality acts are now expressing a desire to come to the town.

“I think people in Angus now understand that we want to put Montrose on the map.”

Charlie said Montrose has a growing reputation as a music venue with appreciative crowds who have a desire to see good shows.

“People in Montrose have a very good selection of musical tastes and we want to give them something to shout about,” he added.

He said the concerts they put on will also have a knock-on effect for the town and provide a welcome economic boost.

As well as the gig-goers spending money in Montrose, local support bands will also be used for every concert.

Charlie and Craig are also being helped by another family member Charlie’s son and Craig’s brother Ross, who is working part-time as an associate.
