Brechin is preparing for a weekend deluge of summer visitors which promises to be the biggest tourist influx the community has ever witnessed.
As BRAVO Brechin gets ready to roll out the red carpet for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts from across Europe, final plans are also being laid for a thrilling water slide down a town centre street in a Courier Country first for adrenalin junkies.
BRAVO chairman Bill Sturrock said interest in the weekend has rocketed.
“It has gone completely crazy. We’ve had 17,000 inquiries for Saturday’s water slide and one woman travelled all the way down from Inverness just so she could be sure of getting her tickets.
“We’d agreed when we set this up that we would sell 1,000 tickets locally but we have City Road closed from 8am to 10pm so we hope we can have as many people enjoy the slide as possible.”

The flume idea has already been a sensation in Bristol but BRAVO says Brechin’s will be longer and faster and organisers are anticipating no shortage of daredevils ready to sign up for the thrilling high-speed trip on an inflatable down the street slide.
“BRAVO has come together to create a better community atmosphere and spirit and it’s about putting on events that people want to take part in,” he added.
the third Harley-Davidson in the City an event established to mark the local connection of the Davidson name to the founders of the legendary motorcycle marque is due to bring an estimated 600-700 bikes roaring into town.Water slide participants are being reminded that they need to sign and take along a waiver form on the day. “We see events like these as long-term, growing into something fairly significant and Harley-Davidson in the City is a good example of how quickly things grow,” Mr Sturrock added.
“We have riders coming from all over Britain as well as Holland, Belgium and Germany and are expecting another great event from them and the many people who have either seen the ride-out before or will be coming to the event for the first time.”
Community involvement includes a coffee morning, fish and chip specials on the Caledonian railway, with Brechin pipe band marching ahead of the ride-out.
The convoy will run through Brechin before heading to Edzell and taking a rural route, which will also allow enthusiasts in Forfar to enjoy the stunning sight.
It will then return via the old Brechin road, past the restored Netherton Cottage that was once home to the couple whose grandsons went on to found the world-famous motorcycle firm.
It has been restored by the Davidson Legacy group of enthusiasts and has now become a must-see for fans of the iconic machines.
Mr Sturrock added: “The ride-out is a huge event and it’s very popular with the bikers because they get to enjoy some spectacular views of the Strathmore valley.
“It’s great to do something different and show off Brechin and Angus to so many people.
“We’ve got a lot of really exciting ideas up our sleeve to keep building the community spirit and bring people to the town and we’re looking forward to a really exciting weekend,” said Mr Sturrock.
