Mother’s Day pain for family of missing Arbroath man Jon Edwards

The mother of missing Arbroath man Jon Edwards says he will be at the front of her thoughts on Mother’s Day.

Lesley Edwards is still hoping someone comes forward with information about her son as Sunday marks exactly six months since he disappeared in Portugal.

Jon, 31, had been working as a chef in Lagos when he vanished on September 15, leaving his clothes, passport and phone behind in his apartment.

Lesley’s hopes were recently raised by someone contacting her through Facebook to say Jon might have been a hitchhiker he picked up in Spain.

However, after Lesley phoned the man back, it emerged that the hitchhiker had been German.

“The man contacted me saying the hitchhiker looked like Jon and that he had walked all the way from Portugal,” she said.

“However, when I called him back it turned out that the lad they picked up was German. For half an hour I was quite hopeful.”

She said that many of Jon’s work colleagues were no longer in the area, but they had continued to spread the word about his disappearance through social media.

Jon posted a message on Facebook that he had knocked himself unconscious at a party in the early hours of September 12.

He was sent home from his work after vomiting later that day and suffered from headaches and dizziness in the following two days before he disappeared.

Lesley will spend Mother’s Day with her daughter Kenna who has also issued several public appeals for information about his disappearance.

They travelled together to the Algarve in September, but after scouring the area and local hospitals there was no sign of Jon.

“To be honest Jon wasn’t the greatest at buying presents or sending cards on Mother’s Day he’d always ask Kenna to add his name to the bottom of a card,” Lesley added.

“He will be in my thoughts but then there’s not a day goes by where he’s not there,” said Lesley.
