Police continue to probe bus incident at Laurencekirk junction

Police are continuing to investigate an incident in which a bus blocked a notorious A90 junction in the Mearns.

Horrified driver Alain Graham from Noranside posted his “dash cam” video of a coach blocking both lanes of the southbound A90 as it crossed from the A937 junction at Laurencekirk.

Police received a number of complaints after the dramatic footage of the coach incident was posted online.

The four miles of the A90 between Laurencekirk and Fourdon has claimed 11 lives since 2000.

Its A937 junction, on a stretch where the speed limit is 50mph, is the only A-class road on the Dundee to Aberdeen carriageway without a grade-separated junction.

Mr Graham’s video shows the bus initially straddling both lanes before it edges forward, leaving the outside lane completely blocked.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland’s Grampian Division said: “Police inquiries are continuing.”

Bus operator MW Nicoll previously sacked a driver for stacking up beside two vehicles in the central reservation of the junction during rush hour in 2013.

A spokeswoman for the company confirmed no action has been taken. She said an official statement will be made in due course.
