Police warning after spate of garage and shed break-ins in Monifieth

Homes in Monifieth have been targeted by a real-life Grinch.

Over the last few days, thieves have made off with Christmas presents and items left in garages and sheds prompting locals to discuss ways they can work together to protect themselves.

Officers from Police Scotland are making inquiries into break-ins throughout the town and have asked residents to be on high alert and secure their property.A dozen bottles of wine, a child’s Little Tikes fire truck toy and train set were taken from a garage at an address in James Herald Terrace.The items were stolen some time between 6.30pm on November 17 and 7.30am on November 18.

Meanwhile, a white Apple iPhone 4S and a black iPod were taken from an insecure vehicle on Grange Avenue, some time between 3pm on November 17 and 10am on November 18.

In Ardownie Street, thieves attempted to break into a shed some time between 10pm on November 17 and 10am on November 18.

PC Steve Wilson issued a warning on social media saying: “Several opportunist crimes have occurred, whereby insecure garages and vehicles have been entered and items stolen.

“Please secure your property.

“Monifieth residents, please ensure you keep your property safe by locking all garages, sheds and vehicles overnight don’t become a victim.

“We are asking Monifieth residents to be vigilant, especially in evenings and night time following a recent spate of thefts in the town.”
