Two trapped in car after ‘serious’ A90 crash at Stracathro services

Emergency services raced to the scene of a “serious” accident on the A90 this morning.

A man and woman were treated after their northboundVauxhall Corsaleft the roadand smashed into a roadside sign outside Stracathro services at around 11am.

Fire and rescue crews helped Tayside Trauma Team recover the pair from the scenebefore they were tended to by ambulance.

Their condition is not known.

A police spokesman said: “A green Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway, resulting in a man in his 20s and a female in her 30s being taken to Ninewells Hospital.

“The road is currently down to one lane northbound. To assist with enquiries, police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to make contact via 101.”

A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We got the call at 11.06am and had two appliances in attendance, one for Brechin and one from Montrose.

“There was a call came in that two people were trapped after an (accident) involving one car.

“The car had left the carriageway and was on the grass verge. There were two people still within the vehicle.

“Personnel administered first aid and the ambulance was in attendance.

“Fire rescue used a long board to help release one of the passengers, assisted by the paramedics, and then the ambulance dealt with them medically.”

A Scottish Ambulance spokesman said: “There has been quite a serious road traffic accident on the A90, north of Brechin.

“Multiple ambulances and the Tayside trauma team are in attendance.

“There are several patients involved but at the moment we have no updates on their condition. We were called out shortly after 12pm.”

The Tayside Trauma Team works closely with the ambulance service, which calls them in to administer treatment at the scene when their advanced skills are required.
