4J Studios’ Minecraft work rewarded with Bafta nominations

Games firm 4J Studios is celebrating after receiving a double nomination in this year’s Bafta Games Awards.

The company, with bases in Dundee and in East Linton, near Edinburgh, is shortlisted for its Console Editions Development Team version of Minecraft in the Multiplayer and Family categories.

Meanwhile, the Bafta Ones to Watch Award, showcasing the emerging new talent in games design, has been organised in association with Dundee’s Dare to Be Digital festival, which is promoted through Abertay University.

The nominations for 4J Studios follow a double success at the Tiga Games Industry Awards in November, where they won the Game of the Year prize, voted for by the public, and the Best Arcade Game by a Large Studio category for same title.

Minecraft allows players to design and build entire worlds online.

4J Studios, headed by Chris van der Kuyl, has played a significant role in Minecraft’s success.
